I'm Someone You Should Get To Know

When I travel this country, it's the FIRST thing you know about me. Before knowing I'm almost 50, before knowing I'm a mother and grandmother, before knowing I love music and dancing, before knowing I love to laugh loudly and often, before knowing I love hard and have been hurt a multitude of times, before knowing that I'll give my last to anyone in need, before knowing I live (and still thrive) with mental illness, anxiety, and childhood traumas.... BEFORE YOU KNOW ME! All you know is I'm Black, and that's no reason to hate me.
